Review: “Take A Listen” by Mala Iwa

Mala, like most poets of his generation and time centered his poem “Take a listen” on the ‘Poli-tricks’ in Nigeria.

In the poem, Mala begs the political class to stay away from playing with the people’s minds and lives and also begs the people of his country to vote wisely, and become conscious of the schemes of the politicians.

The poem was well rhymed but at some point I felt that the poet was forcefully using them. The lines involving Stevey Wonder were unclear as well, I was not certain what the poet meant.

The accompanying background music was alright, and it spiced the poem well.
