Review: Reincarnation by Bamvi ft. Phil Dobson.

Reincarnation is the philosophical or religious concept that an aspect of a living being starts a new life in a different physical body or form after each biological death. It is also called rebirth or transmigration, and is a part of the Saṃsāra doctrine of cyclic existence.

This poem could have had an alternative title like “Lost But Found,” considering that the poet Joero Bamvi lost his mother, and in the span of five years, Jemimah was found (born). Joero sees this as a replacement for his loss. He sees this as the reincarnation of his mother.

The opening is apt as Dobson on a cover of Sam Smith’s “Burning” uses a familiar poetic device to unite tears and laughter: “Oh baby girl you give me SMILE, the first time i heard you CRY. Thank God now i found you.”

“In the valley of thorns common it is for faith to prick, this I deserve, yes, yet I beget a rose,” a comparison of his belief that survives difficult times the loss of his mum and her rebirth in Jemimah.

Bamvi floats over Dobson’s ambiance to send this poem home. He hopes to be better for his niece’s sake and prays she turns out as can be guided by grace.

His niece whose cries and laughter are heard at the beginning and end of the piece is balance for the joy he feels after the moment of sadness.

The outro is apt. Performed by another poet named “North,” he travels through the lineage to place the order of the arrival of the spirits and the flesh, happy to see that this beauty (Jemimah) has been brought for a reason. He shows the level of value for blood and love. So the only thing above the reincarnated mother in his niece Jemimah, is God.

Saṃsāra doctrine is tied to the Karma theory of Indian religions
