What makes your heart beat?

A heart is a mystery in a whole
The simplest things are the big things
Trivial fights leave the largest wound
We like what we like, we don’t know why
Some people and things, can take us to the clouds

Pulse, pumps and palpitations
Arteries are the regular commuters
Valves, ventricles, veins are vague
Chambers are invisible divides
A stare or smile can stir your core

Fragile has a beauty
Abusers are its beast
A heart makes you vulnerable
A beat keeps you alive
Some things can make your heartbeat freeze

Like the blush from a crush, falling in love
Soul, blues; slow songs on long nights
Dreaming, fantasying, listening to silence
Twerks, twists, twirls and turns
Surprises, gifts, Shopping spree and free trips

The sight of a hot steaming meal
The laughter on the face of a loved one
The smell and feel from a clean bed sheet
Fingers running through crisp pages
Holidays, long weekends, and dates

A scene from my favorite movie
The painful pleasure from working out
intellectual banter with friends
The joy of writing a good piece
The satisfaction of completing a task
Peculiar are the things that make my heartbeat.
