Scars (Short Stories)
You see the leaf-like looking scar that rests right between my left breast and collar bone, it is a constant reminder that I should always take my time. “Be a lady or another will come running for you,” my mom will say when I start walking too fast or running after the things of the world.
Word has it that I was 4, playful and reckless like my neighbor’s dog. Everything was perfect on that day; the weather, their mood, the food, the baby. Yes! The baby who was just a few weeks old was perfect.
Everything took a turn at 4pm when the restless me ran into Aunty Hilda who was holding a bowl of hot water, I was on a chase to get back my precious doll. On that day, I can remember crying until I fell asleep for that is what my mother said. I got a lot of attention and healed quicker than they all expected but I was left with a scar that constantly reminds me to take life one day at a time, one moment as it comes for whatever is mine will always comeback to me.
