Review: “Is This The Moment?” By Bash Ft. Aysia
Personally, I would say that this is the kind of poem we would tag “If wishes were horses, beggars will ride”. And that is because the poem is more like a wish, something he wants to see happen, something he looks forward to in the future. Aysia’s intro song gives us a hint “Are we looking to where the sun don’t shine”, she questions, she wonders, if we are looking to the right place for help, for hope and for change.
He talks about violence “To wake up at dawn without another news of another bomb blast”, and the kidnap of the girls of Chibok. He speaks of peace”where mothers are reconciled with their daughters and our sons do not run off to diaspora. He talks of politics bringing fear to the masses, “and we can walk at night without fear for a flight”. He talks of infrastructure, “that our refineries light will shine so bright oiling the life of a nations drive”, tackling the issue that our country has no refineries and oil has to be like gold to mine. He talks of current ion and how we have lost our pride as the heart of Africa and tribalism.
He talks of love for country surpassing selfishness, qualifications surpassing God fatherism in finding jobs, bribery, ” where I wouldn’t have to fold my fist at the next police stop”. He talks of education being affordable, and taking pride in being called Nigerians, Sadly, all of the things mentioned in this poem are things every Nigerian wishes to have, peace, affordable education, refineries and patriotism, which is why I first said, this poem is more of a wish.
