Review of David Oracle Onotu’s “Ode To Kachana”

Poem has two main focus: A friend, Aunt K and Nigeria(poet’s origin).
No central setting. A touch of different parts of Nigeria and few famous people who had impact(especially in the literary world).
The poem is a description of the poet’s country to a Friend who has probably not been there before.
The poet’s goal is to paint a vivid picture of what his country looks like to his Friend- drawing experiences from political and socio-cultural perspective(making reference to Saro Wiwa who died as a result of bad governance, Christopher Okigbo, a poet who died fighting for biafra)
Key Metaphor – “Nigeria is the brilliance of a full moon” meaning there’s hope for Nigeria more than we can see.

Victor Oyedele.

I especially love the depth and depiction used. The accompanying music barely made for clarity in the message of the poet. Overall thumbs up!!
