It didn’t have to go this way

A woman’s intuition will tell her things
She will pretend she doesn’t know. Oh! she does
And when she draws back her words, the silence stings

She knows all her friends, she can finger her foes
If she lets you, she loves you; for she is no fool
Forget her smiles, at midnight she counts her woes

When the crowd gathers to watch, she plays it cool
When she is on fire, it’s from an old match
If you use her, know she is not a mindless fool

Treat her like a gem, make her your only catch
Watch her eyes, where her lips join and rejoin
They’ll interpret what she’s trying to dispatch

When her complaints stop, she will pay you in your coin
No blows dealt, pain will still hit you in your groin.
