A heart is not meant to be still.
If it is, then the wielder has left,
Never to return again.
The heart beats for a thousand things;
For red cap chiefs it is rice,
Sometimes it is something else.
For blind men it is light
And for deaf men sound.
The Pope’s heart beats for the church
But my heart beats for Freya.
Take away the blue stream
Of life-giving liquid from a man,
His heart will stop while he falls.
Take away love and he is nothing
But an empty match pack.
Farmers’ hearts beat for rain
Soldiers’ for home
Husbands for wives
But the meow of my cats
Makes my heart leap with joy.
Flowers long for bees
But they sometimes cheat with butterflies-
Everything is still balanced at the end.
What makes my heart beat
Lives far from this earth,
Sometimes it’s Aliens
That rule distant thoughts.
When my heart freezes there’s
Only one way to make it beat:
Keep silent, silent and let my cats sing.
