As a plant

Olive
I am the very colour of nature; green
A poet’s daydream
Warm, willing and free of worries
I am the symbol
Of everything pure and peaceful
An instrument for God’s blessings
Embodiment of his glory
I was here since the first Man
Survived through the first flood
So it was written in the Holy books
Dice me, I’ll dice
Taste me, you’ll be surprised at
How beauty can bear so much ugliness
And you’ll know that,
Looks are deceiving once in a while
The difference is in the taste

Victor Oyedele
