The Note (Incomplete stories)

Fluttering across the blue midday sky, its bright red colour shone beautifully against the fluffy clouds. Maria’s eyes were drawn to the abstract colour against the blue and white scenery, though, it was to be believed she was the only one that fateful day to see it. A thin string flowed gently, tied elegantly around the base of the balloon. Her gaze followed the thread as it slowly floated down from the heavens, where she spotted a rectangular piece of what she seemed to think was an antique newspaper article. It stayed tied to the end; the fine lace never threatening to unravel and loose it’s precious treasure.

It wasn’t long before the wind slowly let down the balloon, gliding towards the direction of Maria. She danced as she swayed to the music of the breeze misdirecting her. As she stretched out to catch the balloon, she could only reach for the paper tied around it. Like a mailman leaving a message, it circled high into the sky and seemed to vanish into the clouds. Maria opened the piece of paper in anticipation. It was thin around her fingers. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she read through the single page:

Dear Maria,

Do not wait for me. I want you to forgive me for not believing in you. That night when we sat beside the shadow of the midnight,  what i meant to say was i’m sorry.  Remember me for the good and the bad. But remember me more for the gift we shared; love.  I found love in you even when i said i would never love you again.

Mum.
