The mask i take off every morning

Two jolly friends were known to me
Weirdly neighbours that lived across
One was upright as poles can be
The other was stone that gathered moss.

Once in a while they made a team
Quarreling about who would lead
Once they agreed, or so it’d seem
They would pair up with greed and feed.

Tonight there was noise from the room
One was so tired of the other
One was to leave, but who? But whom?
This was war with one and tother.

By the next morning we all knew
The one we saw was not the same;
He was slimmer and shorter too.
