Barricades and Fences

There are walls that hear but never repeat
They store so many secrets till it mounts to a peak
It is on these walls that we scratch our aching backs
The bricks will groan and moan whenever we push too hard
They lap each other so dodge the rising fare
Don’t mind the graffiti, we learn by rebellion
I saw this gap, with a gaping hole for the sun rays
Our eyes can now also look to the other side
But cracks have a way of widening to their destruction.
The higher we go, the more we lower our defenses
There are many tricks to patching a hole
Like the involuntary shields we have our minds build
There are walls that hear but lay idle in the heat
They make good friends argue through the fence
It’s time to forget one part and look beyond.
