Captains

Not only ships need captains
Even the soul needs it too
So does the body and mind
and time and faith and fears and
hate, so does happiness and
grief and wealth and wrath and love
someone needs to take the wheel
ride the wave and sometimes fail
capsize, sink and be clueless
Triumph and claim the victory

I’m the captain of my ship
I’m the master of my sea
I am the king of my tides
With zero knowledge in me
I steer the wheel like a car
Break my brakes and then I’m scarred
I see I’m drowning afar
Heads up, straight like a cigar
Hold on to my rib, my heart
Close my eyes, await the end

And God, I know you see me
I’m dumb and a piece of shit
I’m lost at sea, steering still
Straight faced like I know the drill
I claim captain but I’m not
And we can’t be two on board
My hat is off, and my hands
Steer me to the promised land
Steer me to the promised land
Steer me to the promised land
