It didn’t have to go this way

So, we broke bread when we couldn’t bake our own
Letting our bloodstained gums colour each other
Tightly uncovering ourselves, bone to bone

I told my niece, my father and my mother
They let their teeth out in joy, in concurrence
I got back my old smile but don’t you bother

Kneeling in the sand, naked, a transference
Of tears and curses to the earth, then to you
I have dreamed of this over and over, hence

We should build a mountain here, a mountain dew
So we can climb and drink and pour out our fears
This way, we won’t think of the love lines we drew

The ones we followed as a map all these years
It could be better, but it’s better than tears.
