Understanding “On Pain” By Khalil Gibran

1. I think rhythm of the poem is irregular. There are slow parts and fast parts.

2. “Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquility” is my best line because it reminds me that I can heal from within.

3. The poem reminds me of my first breakup and how a painful experience is a good teacher.

4. I see metaphors in the poem. And these metaphors are very effective.

5. I love the whole poem as it is. I wouldn’t want to change anything and I do not have a worst line either.

6. The message conveyed in this poem is “Pain as a good teacher.”
