Today I am grateful

Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Day!
the Vera I know prefers stories some weeks.
But all is well all the same.
great appreciation for foes first,
then to whoever first wrote a book.
gratitude to poems like Ode to fathers,
fatherless, Dear Jerome and invictus.
so much appreciation too
to rich uncles that do not care,
to who had but never came through
and to those who long for me to die.
thanks to the fire that boils the blood
that serves as fuel for daily poems,
there is no end to this immortality.
finally to cats for pure, selfless love.
