I pray Thee

I pledge to stand with Nigeria
In the midst of the shame, pain and hysteria
The Yahoo Yahoo, bribing corruption and malaria
The wars called holy, for only the innocents are killed
I choose not to dishonour her
I cover my eyes to her nakedness
Her nipples once flowed with milk and honey
Until greedy men sucked up all to make money
But I stand with Nigeria even when the breasts are fallen
I grieve when she’s mourning
I soak her daily in my prayers
For the stones the builders rejected soon will be the layers
Nigeria is my country
If ever Paradise will come,
Then I’d still choose to a citizen.
