FIRST YEAR IN THE UNIVERSITY

Inside these walls is well floored,
They say this world is well flawed.
The stamina that one has built
Will shrink and dry like leaves that wilt.
A little cat that learnt to swim
Will call itself a catfish;
A feeble boy that one can snap
Will put a gun behind your head.
I’ve heard some people pay to pass
While others sleep and pass.

Few months ago I saw a boy
Whose shirt read ‘School na scam’!
I picked my thoughts on what it meant
And saw it’s all a lie.
All there is is to give my best
And make my people proud.
One thing I know is I will scale
And this silence will be loud.
Expectations will break my heart
But I do hope that there, I’ll find a wife.
