Human Nature: Mengzi (Mencius) Vs Us
According to Menacius, human nature is that which a human being is naturally or originally inclined towards; in his case Menacius suggests good. He further clarified his theory by citing an example of a man who sees a child by a well and feels compassion for the child.
No, I do not agree with Menacius’ proposal of human nature. The Human nature is inclined towards both good and bad. For if it was naturally attracted toward good alone, then there would be no bad. But since humans portray both good and bad tendencies, then it means that it is in their nature to do either good or bad, depending on the situation that they find themselves. A mother will protect her child at all cost. She will kill even as long as her child is protected.
Humans have the natural inkling to be both good and bad, difference being in the situation one finds himself/herself. While other humans steal, others give to charity, while others commit murders, others volunteer in with the red cross society. There has to be a balance, humans cannot all be good or bad. They’re a mixture of both. Some tend to portray one side more.
Survival is utmost for the human species. And in the path of survival, both Good and Bad must be encountered.
I Am a Human Being,
Naturally tilted towards good or bad, depending on the situation I find myself.
