Human Nature: Mengzi (Mencius) Vs Us
Human nature is like a willow tree, it is like a swift current of water; you lead it eastward and it will flow to the east, you lead it westward and it will flow to the west. Human nature is neither disposed to good nor to evil.
Do you agree with Mencius’s proposal of human nature? If yes, why. If no, why.
-Yes I agree to Menicus. Why? Even when Kao said ‘Nature is born with us’ and Menicus stressed that nature is actually born with us which he elaborated to make us know that till we existed, human nature was not in existence. Good and evil had existed. Love, Hate, Envy, Pride, all these existed but when human nature was identified, these emotions bore names and originated from what the mind exposed itself to feel.
Do humans have the natural inkling to be good? Or do humans have the inkling to be bad? Kindly explain your answer.
-Humans have the inkling to be both good an bad. Remember it is like a swift of current which means it must flow somewhere. Humans have a higher thought process (sense), so once human nature is identified, righteousness of inkling to be good exists and so does the bad. Koa again specifies that righteousness comes from without which means it is experienced as it is exposed. When left to follow human nature, humans will do what they call good but the idea of good cannot be complimented if evil doesn’t accompany it. Meaning other feelings commiserate when humans are in different situations.
Using Mencius’s piece as an example, who are you? What are you naturally to tilt towards? What is your human nature?
I am a human made like many other humans with a sense of commiseration. First I was on four limbs and now I am on two feet. I have and still am possessing and acquiring knowledge that results me to reflectively think.
I am tilted towards the principles of my father and the one before my father’s father, to be like a willow tree, to love like a swift current and to open my mind so I am guided or stirred by my nature which is good.
