For Goodness Sake
I have been overpowered by silence
My defiance keeps mute
So that peace can come to be
Not because I am good
But my nature finds it that way
I don’t like when my hairs pique
Or the goose bumps underneath
Or when my conscience screams.
This is for those like me, and some
Who won’t tell you it’s for their sake
Know when a scent is not worth a sniff
There are greater things at stake
So when I do it, it’s breathes for me
I do it for my belief
And how it washes me with relief
For my sake a son was cursed to die
And my lips have come to wear out his name
He sees into my secret jars
Knows how soon I’ll tell a lie,
Yet, his arms are always wide open.
