Why should hot water heat?
March left us last night
And brought us burnt bread.
We’re trapped in a hunger not unusual.
April is the only month that boils down
To a heat that gives you chills.
It babbles, it trickles, it burbles
She’d pour from her kettle and her anger
All upon my skin like a fin stretched thin.
How could heat be so hot?
Can this heat tone down a bit?
There’s nothing else to say
The sun has always been a hard master
Driving some out of their minds like a plague
A time when clothing becomes the enemy
The trees can do little about it
Whatever comes on the plate, we eat
The hard way is one way to live
There’s none left with multiple choice
Heat is served, won’t you drink?
