Imagine Nigerians
Imagine Nigerians on a queue with everyone waiting their turn
For the first time it’d be the presence of fire without the burn
Phones are put away
At least just for today
The conversation is real
With a touch of human feel
Real human sweats
Rants and confident regrets.
Until the last man collects,
We wait on one another
On thunderous laughs
Revealing skirts and dandruff-ridden scarfs
For the first time we do not complain
Not even of the joy of too much rain
Or of where the grasses are greener again
We protect every head of grain
Plant where the seeds would gain
Remember Bob without his Wailers
Asa without her jailers
Every street corner is rid of paper
Every bread confirms its baker
There’s gift for us before there’s gift for the maker
Where healing comes from just a smile across the room
Where the parties we attend are without umbrellas and brooms
And we eat just our portion of the cake
If imagination could be all it takes.
