My Addiction

addiction-main

Leave out the syllables that confuse,
Lose the meter and rhyme,
Lecture not on my choices of Hughes,
Listen only for that rattling enzyme.

Endure my wit and Godly satire,
Enjoy the pun and poignant farce,
Ensure not to completely admire
Ending my sentences before the parse.

Now in the middle of all these
Nuances that appear,
Narrow down this poem to a plate of cheese.
No need for a metaphor, no need to be unclear.

Once I had knelt right before my appetite
Opening my door for this gollum to leave
One by one I had hungered to feast and bite
On a habit that ended in reprieve.
