Reply to Linda Gregg’s ‘Asking for directions’

how love is never
changing and never
remaining the same.
the impermanence, struck,
as if by canes
wielded by masquerades
struck, as if by lightening
rumoured to have been
sent by aged village people.
never changing, never the same.
struck, as if there was a switch
between angel and heathen—
freely swinging, a pendulum
oscillating, so predictable
that one cannot guess.
never changing. never remaining the same.
