Why is that?

We’ve been asked, why is that
burden hard to release?
Like commandments, we carve
them, worship them, until
we cannot precisely
tell what differentiates
that pain and heaviness
from a skin reaction.
Why is that scar honest?
So much we refer back
with touches that strike
memories back alive.
