Tonight, I write again

after that glass of wine the other day
as my eyes retired for the long night
you snuck into my faint dream to waylay
I remember! I saw you by my right

I remember the colour of your eyes
how your cheeks sat at the brink of your jaw
smiling and telling lots of truthful lies
we walked, ran, danced, hugged, kissed; broke every law

I returned to the place where we first met
the trees, leaves, birds and wind tried to be nice
you were gone; mine was an unlucky bet
it was just a hapless throw of the dice

tonight, I’m writing on sand in the rain
to see if I’ll find a cure for this pain
