A Child

a child is
a stranger to life
and a
feeding tadpole.
with water and sand
mud in hand
a castle he’ll build
everything is a field
her mother’s breasts
his father’s chest
and the grin that they wear at rest
theirs is no contest
but they’re scarily jealous
they’d tear to get noticed
rip out their hearts
for a pill of sweet
and they’d wear a teethless smile
a child is a child
wild and innocent
dull and sweet
a passage
home
