Response to Fleur Adcock’s “Things”

the world has eyes that are a halo until death
it is why you seek approval more than you breathe.
a skeleton may take flesh when it’s buried too long
in the same closet where God holds meetings with other gods.
the best of us are same number with the worst of us
single out your thoughts but know others exist too.
to wake is a bigger problem than dying
seeing the sun is overrated than a kiss.
don’t be quick to write the truth to everyone
so long it hurts, nobody is prepared to bleed even in a war,
so write your manuals how they fit you
but remember that your son will read it too.
