How to build a home

For Younglan, Rose and Jerome
there’s no house better for you to roam,
Always remember these lessons and
how we build a home

We begin from the windows
because that’s the eye to our hearts
we use the blinds of humility,
the one that shrouds our Father’s pride.
There is a column of wisdom
as mysterious as mother’s three-legged pot.
The floor is our memoir cause it holds our dreams
while the evening exposes our sins
because we were all born in the dark.
Mother says we become light when dead
so none of us fears this death.
We end then with roofs of our names
being black is nothing to be ashamed of
especially when you’re on stage, making a page.

For Younglan, Rose and Jerome
there’s no house better for you to roam,
Always remember these lessons and
how we build a home
