The human anatomy

hands held up to heaven
mouths wide open
eyes with water the size of the sea
ears like a canoe’s paddle
and there’s another part

hearts beaten and broken
feet that do not recognize defeat
lungs that breathe in joy
a liver the slice of vengeance

there’s one more i can stomach
the torso’s tender tendon
the thoughts that the ribs cage

in this child, this man, this woman
is worn complete, a being
