Just Because I am…

Just because I am from the west of Nigeria
Doesn’t mean I am less Nigerian
Doesn’t mean I don’t have southern friends
And doesn’t mean my tongue isn’t flowing with Hausa
Just because I would stay still and smile
Doesn’t mean my heart isn’t quaking
Doesn’t mean my feet isn’t trembling
Doesn’t mean I do not want to bite too
Just because I don’t like to travel
Doesn’t mean I don’t like to see new places
Doesn’t mean I won’t have to travel
Doesn’t mean I don’t want a jet
Just because I was lucky to be a boy child
Is that enough reason to give me a little less attention?
You don’t think I can be fragile, soft too?
I must bare the weight on my shoulder right?
Don’t test God.

Victor Oyedele
