As Human As I Am

Man must move; sometimes for food, sometimes to find love.
Some other times to prove to his father that he no longer is a child.

Man must feel and breathe happiness and air
But sometimes he is sad for there is hate in the air he breathes.

Man must eat but not just bread and fish,
Sometimes his mind too must feed from the source of knowledge.

Man must act and react to his fellow man
And sometimes to butterflies and hummingbirds perching for nectar on flowers.

Man must grow upwards and downwards like an Iroko and an Iroko root
And his heart must grow side ways too, like running stems of pumpkin.

Man must excrete the food that he eats and the hate that he breathes
And every other thing that makes man not function as man.

Man must reproduce not just children
But love and joy and peace and kindness and light.

Man must die and I am man.
