One Memory, One Child

My childhood was quite a blur
It went through me more than I knew
For I am only a gate to memories past.
The things I love I remember
The ones I despise I forget

But I remember age 5 to 12
How I ran free unclothed
My favourite dress was my innocence
Constantly worn with a smile
Fearless, tear-less, careless.

I spoke my mind without consequence
“Leave her alone, she’s only a child”
Lone I was, an only child
Company was sought from strays and street
With scars to prove for toughness

Fences and trees were my best climb
Moving trucks left me with broken arm
The windows I squeeze through to get free
Is a wonder made to dazzle
Kids with no gender, we played not minding our tribes.
