Few Among Others

These roots will not kill me
The many faces the society wears
The blocks we build between our spaces
The different tiers I find myself in
How can they say these people are not one?
I have friends who have never seen Oranmiyan
I myself have never walked the streets of Jos
Not that it matters
The connection is stronger than four Gs.

With my friends, most times we come in trees
One’s mother’s mother is from the east
The Father is Yoruba, his Mom, Hausa
These trees are trying too hard to burn themselves
Sometimes, the blind have eyes
They just can’t see

Money doesn’t help people be better
People are because they choose to be
There are more laws than our ears have heard
Choice is one,
We often abuse our rights to make the right choice.
