Once Upon A Novice

“I love you you!” I heard him say,
My guts recoiled to hide in shame
Behold a god, and I, unworthy
His charm pricked with a deadly heat
His gaze a maze that made me dazed

I saw the stars in his eyes
A quake awoke from centuries of sleep
I missed a step, a heartbeat
In an involuntary dance feat
While my feet were firmly grounded

That first bite of a tasty snack
I held on to his words like a heavenly rope
With a childlike snug contentment
And I waited, for him, on him
Absorbing his lie like a holy kiss

I fell like a remote, remotely controlled
Suppressing my disdain for salivary slurps
I drank in gulps with a poppy eye
Fought through tight tongue to get a grip
Till “I love you too”, could easily slip.
