Human Nature: Mengzi (Mencius) Vs Us

According to Mencius, what is human nature? What tendencies/principles of human nature did he discover?

Nature is what is born in us.

Every man tends to do good.
Man also tends to do evil when evil is done to man.

Do you agree with Mencius’s proposal of human nature? If yes, why. If no, why.

Yes.

Because it is easy to be kind to those who show you kindness, and also easy to resent those who are hostile towards us.

Do humans have the natural inkling to be good? Or do humans have the inkling to be bad? Kindly explain your answer.

Humans have the tendency to both good and bad.

Some to a greater degree than others.

Every man has a sense of compassion and the sense of compassion is the beginning of humanity.
Sense of shame is the beginning of righteousness.
The sense of courtesy is the beginning of decorum.
The sense of right and wrong is the beginning of wisdom.
Every man has this four within them, but some fail to exercise it.

And that is what makes people different.
Some will always be nicer than some, and others more evil.

Using Mencius’s piece as an example, who are you? What are you naturally to tilt towards? What is your human nature?

I am both good and bad.
But I tend to tilt more towards righteousness.
My human nature is both within and without.
Those I was born with, and those I acquired.
