STEEL (STILL) STATUE

Without the sinew and the power,
I would be but an effigy,
Like a figurine, lifted
Dummy of dust and steel
Kept from its own self
Humourless and unreal,
A human steel still shifted,
Riveting to a jester’s plea
Dried up like an abandoned flower.

I would listen like a gossip’s ears,
See more and more of all evil
Be an accomplice to good,
Hide ashes of burnt truth
With no need to fear.
Still could have been a tooth,
Fine but unfit to bite food
A big ailing giant weevil
Who would have never been moved to tears.
