For Nearly A Decade

“Thank you!” That’s what the waiter said.
Her wide grin beginning to spread
She made to pour another drink,
I held her hand instead, i think
Memorizing the next words playing in my head.

This was really different for her.
The tear that dropped fell on her scar
On top her left chin was the glow
That seemed to wander to and fro
Looking for a place of escape to somewhere far.

She took her hand and turned from me
I’d said what i said carelessly
For all i thought she wouldn’t care
But there she was gasping for air
She’d never received a compliment that was free.
