Trapped; Locked Inside

Trapped,
in this air-tight thoughts,
inhaling carbon dioxide and breathing oxygen,
abnormality to break chains of thoughts,
who takes the blame for lack of freedom?
Me or the gods of wisdom?

A thought to love without caring,
thoughts of winning without contesting,
thoughts of leading without following,
thoughts of reproducing without “mekwe”.
My train of thoughts is darker than my skin tone.

I envy,
stories of great men like Malcom,
when I can,
have a history greater than Luther,
or better more,
walk down the paths of men like Haile Selassie.

I pen poems alone listening to Leonell Echa,
God as my witness, I’m learning from my teacher.
I’m breaking the chains binding my thoughts,
freeing the demons living in my head,
embracing the angelic bat that flies at noon,
and making a positive impact through my art.
