The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald

Are you in love with me?
Daisy’s face tipped sideways,
her voice was a wild tonic.
I made an excuse and got to my feet.

She followed wildly.
You’re acting like a little boy, she said.
What’s the matter?
where are you going, she demanded?

For a minute, there wasn’t a sound,
She looked with unforgettable reproach.
Amid the confusion of cups and cakes,
she looked so innocently with unhappy eyes.

I’ll be back, she said.
I’ve got to speak to you before you go,
my face assumed a deep tropical burn.
I’ve been in love with her for five years now.
