The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald

I sat down miserably in a yard,
Under a lilac tree with a cup of confusion,
A terrible mistake i made with Daisy.
It’s November, and five years of desperation.

We met in Gatsby’s kitchen, and you were loud.
I jumped at your bright ecstatic smile,
Are you in love with me? You asked
Absolutely, my dearest one, i said.

Unaware of the loud beating of my heart,
To the automatic alarm sound at a corner
The exhilarating surprise was for a moment,
My dearest one has been pale as death.

My lips parted with an abortive attempt.
I’m sorry, i murmured,
“I don’t think so” she said innocently.
My living room was deserted, five years back.
