The Price of Freedom

Blood may overflow, graves pile to the top
Heights don’t matter, our skulls will bear the fall.
Bravery was nailed, before fear made a drop

Freedom sought to pay the price for us all!
These songs we now sing, we’re not always free,
Ego was bruised just so we can stand tall.

Our own very souls were bought for a fee
A price that puts us in isolation.
It came with ties, binding us to one tree.

Wornout flags in discolouration
Calls were answered, clarions came to our aid
Dreams were shattered, or dealt with alteration.

Alters were raised, sacrifices were laid
Many lives were demanded, dues were paid.
