False Alarm

there’s madness I have seen
howling across the street
imitating me

dampness in the dam
error-correcting screams
there’s madness I have seen

the sea has lost its way
there’s a drowning of dreams
howling across the street.

jousting between hills.
there’s night and day and May
imitating me.

there’s a clanging in my head
that’s so loud and seldom clear—
how do you drown a cloud?

we try to heed the call
from the voices that save, but
there’s a clanging in my head

as the night imitates your
and the moon mimics your cry
that’s so loud and seldom clear—

what do you intend to do?
lament and wail and groan?
how do you down a cloud?
