the children queued
for hours waiting
for when the well
that never runs dry
will be opened. with
their buckets, basins
and patience they waited. when the key
eventually came, it did
but not alone—— owners
of oceans also wanted
to fetch from the well——
they fetched until there was nothing but an endless
hole of darkness.
the children carried
their buckets and basins
and empty hearts home.
