When Christmas Comes

we remember how Joseph obeyed
not knowing why or how or whose
but with Mary and the baby he stayed
where there was choice to refuse

we replay why we can’t be him
some things righteousness won’t redeem
like accepting another man’s lady
and celebrating the birth of his baby.
