a poem in six ways

A bad backdrop, a memory
Invisible, glaring, silent.
I often forget the sound of
how your handwriting spanked the page
Too brutal, too careful, too large
Scribbling the name of a drug
is almost like summoning a
muse, a demon, or a lost friend.
So poetry is belief in
your ability to turn inks
into therapists, or triggers
or nothing, which ever works best.
