father! such word meant so much to him,
friend, acquaintance, brother, his deep muse
for poems or that long ominous hymn.

his world turned cloudless with such bad news
that drinking got him back yet again.
father’s life was gone, so was his fuse

till that day’s poem he wrote in pain
before his neck would knot that tight-rope
soon he left, to meet dad on that slope.
