A day i remember

2013: To visit grandpa in Katsina is a nightmare worse than watching an exorcism. Errands are scarier than shadow ghosts. We feared even the smallest of kids. Sunday, in my large skirt and scarf to match, money in my hand hoping I could get okro before I’m sighted. The little boys flooded out like they awaited my coming. Stone in their hands they screamed “arna! arna!”. Some threw stones, some threw mud, the girls threw eyes and hisses, I threw my legs against the ground and fled.
