On empathy

On some days, one skin
is a house for two.
So when you describe hurt
so blue it changed the colour
of your heart, I feel it too
We breathe the same elastic air,
bear the same lies and truths
so, when you say grief is
acceptance, I know it’s true.
I sat in your pain for days
until you stopped feeling it
yourself. We blend, we switch
bodies when there’s a new
emotion, adventure, sin.
You get drunk at my stupor
everything lurks within, afar
Your throat, my eyes, your knees, my heart
Yet when I say we dwell inside
each other, you cringe and
my face wrinkles
